Bespoke Commercial Murals

Any of my hand painted bespoke murals for offices, restaurants, schools, nurseries, and even hospitals add a new fresh and exciting dimension to a space. As an experienced and qualified mural artist based in Cheshire, I work closely with each client to make sure that all the clients' requirements are incorporated into the design of their mural.

I start by producing a design sketch or computer render for each mural scheme so the client can see exactly how the mural will look before they order. I offer my experience and advice on the style and type of murals to have, to ensure the correct materials and finish is applied for each mural application.

Project: Project : New Dementia Ward , Penderfield Hospital, Wakefield

Brief: NHS Penderfield Hospital contacted me to commission me to do a Reminiscence mural for a family room on the new Dementia ward - the theme was the 60's - and they requested the mural to be as bright and interesting as possible so that it could be a talking point for the patients.

I am delighted with Joanna's finished work."

Project: Birmingham Botanical Gardens – Large Feature Entrance Mural

"I haven't worked with a Mural artist before, but I could see from Joanna's website how versatile she is. It has been a pleasure working with her from beginning to end. She was really quick to grasp the interior design proposals I had put forward, and within a matter of days she had come up with the perfect concept for the space. Our priority was to bring the gardens indoors so that visitors to the hospitality suites would immediately have a sense of where they were. Having just seen the finished mural, I couldn't be happier with the outcome, and I know it will be enjoyed by visitors for years to come."

Project: RAF Wittering, Peterborough Community Centre – 3 Rooms

Brief: We had three days to transform this large Community Centre at RAF Peterborough – before the Duchess of Wessex came to open the centre. In the largest room which was over 30m long, we transformed the space from bare cream walls to a magical flower garden. The second room was used by Brownies and Scouts – so I did an outside camping theme with wild animals and Rocky Mountains. For the third room it was used by older children so we did people dancing and funky music murals.

Project: St Edwards First School, Cheshire - Woodland Corridor Mural

Brief: The corridor that the children hung there coats and did reading practice was very dark and needed brightening up to create a nice friendly environment for the children. All the classes are names of animals, so this also needed to be included in the theme.

Project: Lee Mount Primary School, Halifax, Library Bookcase Mural

Brief: The school ran a competition for World Book day and all the children dressed up as their favourite book character, the winners of the competition were then to be included in the mural. Because the mural was being painted on a wall in the library the concept of a bookshelf with children sitting in between the books reading seemed the perfect theme.

Project: Nightclub Bar – Hand Painted Marble Effect Mural Design

Brief: Barasti, a recently refurbished Night Club in Stoke On Trent, required a modern and updated feel for the interior. I designed and painted a Black and Grey toned stone Marble effect on the large bar surfaces and hand rails around the dance floor and seating areas. I used my practiced marble paint effect, combined with the use of feathers and sponges. I also created a very realistic gloss Marble mural on the walls behind the bar area as a feature mural.

The project took approx 4 days to complete working around other Trades to ensure the club was open on time.

Project: Southern Office Interiors – Office Showroom Mural

Brief: The aim of the painted mural for the showroom was to take a very plain 20m long wall and create an inspiring backdrop to the room to show off all the company products. I worked closely with the Director Andrew to create a mural design to be hand painted directly onto the wall. The company had worked with each of the buildings I featured in the mural design. The bright green colour running through the entire wall mural was the corporate colour for the company and this tied in brilliantly with the rest of the room's furnishings and style. This bespoke hand painted wall mural took approx. 1 week to sketch out and paint to the agreed finished look.

Project: Train Station Private Day Nursery – North Manchester – Internal Murals

Brief: The Train Station Nursery has been newley built to a very high standard and they wanted murals in the play area of the nursery to tie in with the Train Station theme. I designed three fronts of buildings, one as a café, one as a Station Master's House and one as the front entrance to the Train Station. In another area of the nursery I created a Secret Garden design which was a quiet area for children to read.

Project: Busy Bear Private Children's Nursery Murals

Brief: Nina the Nursery owner wanted a bright fun mural for her Pre School room – and because the name is Busy Bears I suggested we included cute bears into the design. I designed the bears to be doing different things that tied in with the area of the room they were located in. I designed a qwirky window design for an area of the room which had no view outside. Nina also had two walls and a staircase that she wanted making more interesting for the children to look at so I designed a bright flower garden design.

Project: Westmorland Primary School – Stockport – Dance Studio Murals

Brief: The dance studio was a very large space with huge areas of plain blank white walls, and the Head teacher wanted to make the space a lot more inviting and inspiring for his pupils. I created lively and bold designs to add colour and interest to the space, but designs that also worked with the schools budget for the project.

Project: Ruddy Duck Marston's Pub, Wakefield – Children's Outdoor Play Area Mural

Brief: The brief for this project was mainly based on the budget they had for the project at a newly built commercial pub in Yorkshire. The client needed the mural painting within a very short time frame, and in changing weather conditions in November in the UK. The design had to be kept quite simple because the outdoor wall that the mural was to be painted on was extremely rough brick. I designed a tunnel and York stone Bridge design with cartoon children looking down from above, this created depth to the wall and also tied in with their playground theme. The size of the wall was approx. 8 metres long x 5 meters high, waterproof and quick drying paints were used in my design to ensure the mural was durable, weather proof and will last for years.

Project: La Casa Vecchia Italian Restaurant Mural

Brief: This restaurant was being refurbished and they wanted a hand painted wall mural to remain in keeping with the style and furniture of the restaurant, but have a slightly more contemporary feel to it, to help the restaurant appeal to a younger audience. The mural I designed was based on decorative Italian architecture combined with a rustic colour palette to match the restaurants furnishings.

Project: Leighton Hospital Accident & Emergency Ward Wall Murals

Brief: The hospital wanted to make a cubicle in the Majors ward and the Minors ward more child friendly, and so approached me for ideas on a hand painted mural for each room. The mural in the minors ward had to run around the whole room and provide something interesting for the children to look at. I designed a Monkey mural for this cubicle and then painted bananas hidden in the vines so that when the children were being treated the nurses had something they could distract the children with, by asking them to see if they could spot all the hidden bananas within the mural painting.

"I am writing this email to express my sincere gratitude for the work you have done recently in the Emergency Department. From initial contact you were helpful with the design and your flexibility was especially accommodating so we could get the artwork completed with as little disruption as possible in order for the ED to continue seeing patients.

The finished product not only brightens up the department but is welcomed by the younger generation and makes what could be a scary frightening place more friendly and welcoming. The hidden bananas within the monkey mural are an added delight and acts as a wonderful distraction for the children when they are having minor procedures. Hopefully we will work with you again in the future when more funds are raised."
